Where to watch the 2027 total solar eclipse in Spain
There is no single best place for every observer. In Spain, the strongest starting point is an exact pin inside the southern totality path, with a clear view toward the eclipse and a practical travel plan. These reference points show the difference between totality and a large partial eclipse.
Where the 2027 totality path crosses Spain
The official Spanish overview places the path through the Strait of Gibraltar, Ceuta and Melilla, almost all of Cádiz province, much of Málaga, and the southern parts of Granada and Almería. Use those regions to shortlist a journey, then recalculate the exact pin.
- Strait of Gibraltar — Ceuta and Melilla are inside the official Spanish path, while Tarifa is a particularly strong duration reference in the wider region. Exact access and local conditions still matter.
- Cádiz province — Almost the entire province is included in the official path. Cádiz is the planner reference here; nearby locations should be recalculated because duration changes with the exact position.
- Málaga, Granada and Almería — The path also reaches much of Málaga and the southern parts of Granada and Almería. Treat the provincial outline as a shortlist, not as a city-level guarantee.
- Outside the path — The rest of Spain sees a partial eclipse. A high Sun and a convenient city do not replace being inside the totality band.

Cádiz: start with the totality path
Cádiz is an inside-path reference with the Sun high in the morning sky and a central phase lasting several minutes. Use it as a starting point for comparing nearby exact pins, not as a guarantee for every address in the province.
Seville: nearby does not mean total
Seville has a high Sun and useful partial-eclipse timings in this reference set, but it is outside the central path. If totality is the goal, move the pin into the path and recalculate rather than relying on the regional label.
Madrid: a clear partial comparison
Madrid shows how a high, deep partial eclipse can still be different from totality. It is a valid partial-eclipse reference, but the totality experience requires travel to the southern path.

How to choose your final viewpoint
- Start with an exact pin inside the totality path; being somewhere in southern Spain does not establish totality.
- Compare the path position and central duration at candidate pins. Near the edge, a short move can change whether totality occurs and how long it lasts.
- Check the solar altitude and azimuth. The 2027 Sun is much higher than in 2026, but nearby buildings, trees and terrain still affect the view and access.
- Use weather as the date approaches. Dry August conditions can help, while heat haze, coastal humidity and high cloud can still reduce contrast.
- Keep a practical alternative with access and travel time checked, then use certified solar viewers before and after totality.
